WINSTON-SALEM—Wake Forest jumped out to an early lead with a strong first half and held on to beat North Carolina, 74-57, on Tuesday night at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
With the win, the Demon Deacons (14-10, 4-10 ACC) moved past the Tar Heels (3-11, 3-10 ACC) in the conference standings.
Wake led, 44-26, at halftime after shooting 56 percent from the floor in the first half and holding Carolina to 31 percent in the opening 20 minutes.
Neither team shot well in the second half, and Wake led comfortably the rest of the way until a 9-0 Tar Heel run pulled the Tar Heels within 10 at 64-54 with 3:13 left to play.
