Thanks to Monday night’s dramatic win, the North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team are still alive and kicking in the NCAA Tournament. Next up for them will be a visit from West Virginia for the best-of-three Chapel Hill Super Regional. Before all that gets going, let’s take a look at how the Mountaineers ended up becoming Carolina’s opponent for a trip to Omaha for the College World Series.
WVU was given the #3 seed in the Tucson Regional, but advanced through that with an undefeated 3-0 run. Despite an early exit in the Big 12 Tournament and a 33-20 regular season record, the Mountaineers had been on a solid run towards the end of the season, winning series over fellow NCAA Tournament teams, UCF and Kansas State.
