TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Michael Seegers tripled home the go-ahead run in the 13th inning, and No. 2 seed Iowa eliminated No. 3 North Carolina seed from the NCAA Terre Haute Regional 6-5 on Sunday, ending the Tar Heels season at 36-24.
With two outs in the 13th, Seegers tripled into the left-center field gap as the ball got past the diving Mac Horvath and rolled to the wall, allowing Coy Sarsfield to score standing up from second base.
Will Christophers (5-1), who the Tar Heels touched up for three runs in a 1/3 inning Friday night, retired the side in order in the bottom of the 13th.
