TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Jack Whitlock tossed three scoreless innings, Kyle Huckstorf scored the game-winning run on a squeeze bunt in the eighth inning, and No. 2 seed Iowa defeated No. 3 seed North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Terre Haute Regional on Friday.
The Tar Heels will face No. 4 seed Wright State in an elimination game Saturday at noon. Iowa will take on No. 1 seed Indiana State at 6 p.m.
Iowa led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth and got two key insurance runs to extend its lead to four runs.
