'Air' is based on the true story of how the shoe corporation Nike managed to woo up-and-coming NBA rookie Michael Jordan into a partnership, creating one of the most successful shoe lines of all time: the Air Jordans. Screenwriter Alex Convery got the idea for the film while watching The Last Dance, the ESPN documentary miniseries. (Decider)
