Jim Lampley’s first job at WCHL was a pretty good one: regular post-game interviews with Bill Dooley, UNC’s head football coach. “I was making $25 a show,” he said, “which in those days was significant money for me.” Eventually, he added basketball coverage, staying with the station even after getting his bachelor’s degree and moving on to grad school.
