NC State football is now 41-19 in season openers since the ACC’s inception some 60 years ago. Coach Doeren’s win over Troy advanced him to 3-0 in openers with the Pack and 4-1 in openers in his career when you include Northern Illinois’ loss against Iowa in 2012.
It is interesting to consider some of these records. I will never forget Central Florida’s Kevin White peeling off an 80 yard run from scrimmage in Tom O’Brien‘s first play as head coach at NC State. UCF went on to win that game in Carter Finley Stadium and set the tone for TOB’s struggles (2-4) in openers that included two losses to South Carolina and one against Tennessee in Atlanta.
