Former NC State All-American wrestler Trent Hidlay became a World Champion yesterday, defeating Russia’s Amanula Gadzhimagomedov in the 92 kg Senior World Championship final in Croatia.
Hidlay showed the heart of a warrior, defying all odds. Within the first 30 seconds of the match, he trailed 6–0. With 20 seconds left in the first period, Hidlay was down 10–2. The five-time All-American still had work to do, trailing 10–5 with 1:15 remaining. With one minute left, Hidlay cut the deficit to 10–7. After 25 more seconds ticked off the clock, the four-time ACC Champion was within one point (10–9).
