The North Carolina State basketball team has postponed a planned trip to Italy in August due to a U.S. State Department warning to American travelers.
In a text message, associate athletic director Fred Demarest cited "an abundance of caution" in the school's decision.
The Wolfpack were scheduled to visit Rome, Milan and Venice from Aug. 5 through Aug. 15 but instead will take the trip in 2017.
The state department alert cites "the risk of potential terrorist attacks throughout Europe, targeting major events, tourist sites, restaurants, commercial centers and transportation." It also suggests that the large number of tourists visiting Europe in the summer will present greater targets.
