Yesterday NC State Head coach Dave Doeren said that this team “has been playing with a chip on it’s shoulder since week seven of last year” at his weekly press conference.
I hate to be that guy, but I am going to have to disagree.
At minimum, he and I have vastly different definitions of what the phrase ‘chip on the shoulder’ means.
According to my understanding of the phrase, when a team plays with a ‘chip on their shoulder’ they feel as if they have been disrespected or that they are underappreciated, and as a result, they play with extra tenacity and aggression.
