NC State head football coach Dave Doeren agreed to a new contract to stay in Raleigh back in November, after a brief dalliance with Tennessee—that extension, which runs through 2022, is now official. Doeren is getting a significant salary bump and also got more money for his coaching staff.
State has also given a new contract to wrestling coach Pat Popolizio, who has been a revelation for that program, leading it to heights nationally it has never been to before. He’s arguably the best coaching hire that Debbie Yow has made as State’s athletics director.
Pop’s new deal runs through 2025, which shows you not only how good he is but also how much leverage he has; the job that he’s done at NC State is so impressive that he no doubt would/will have all sorts of options at more theoretically traditional wrestling schools.
