NC State 1B Evan Edwards taken in 4th round of MLB Draft by Miami Marlins

Evan Edwards was the second NC State player off the board in the Major League Baseball Draft, going in the fourth round to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Edwards was the No. 111 player taken overall.

The slot value of that particular pick is north of $500,000 but, unfortunately, Edwards is unlikely to see anywhere near the full bonus amount. College seniors have no negotiating leverage, and because teams have a set pool of money they can spend to sign players, they often take seniors in the first 10 rounds as a money-saving tactic.

Anyway, I’m glad to see Edwards get his shot, and now we’re gonna see how far his bat can take him.
