The Chicago Cubs called up former NC State pitcher Cory Mazzoni from their AAA Iowa Cubs yesterday, and he pitched a scoreless ninth inning (1 K) to close out a 14-2 win over the Marlins. Prior to being called up, Mazzoni had posted a 2.31 ERA in 11.2 innings of work in Iowa.
Mazzoni was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the New York Mets, and last night marked his 15th career game he has pitched in the big leagues.
While at NC State, Mazzoni had record of 14-14, with an ERA of 4.
