N.C. State senior cornerback Mike Stevens will miss Saturday’s opener against South Carolina with a lower-leg injury, Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren confirmed Monday, but may not be sidelined an extended period of time.
Stevens, who started 12 games last season, was injured in practice after some minimal contact, Doeren said. The injury, the coach said, would not require surgery.
“He’s doing way better than expected,” Doeren said. “He won’t miss a ton of time.”
Doeren said an initial estimate was that Stevens might be out four weeks. But he said he spotted Stevens in the weight room Monday and added, “He’s doing really well and we’re hoping he’ll be back quickly.
