Dennis Smith Jr. goes for 16 points and 10 assists in NBA debut with Dallas Mavericks

The first official basket of Dennis Smith’s NBA career—and the first two points of the Dallas Mavericks’ season—came on a dunk, naturally. Smith started for Dallas on Wednesday night and logged 29 minutes; he finished the night with 16 points, 10 assists, and three rebounds.

DSJ is the youngest NBA player ever to record a points-assists double-double in his league debut. That’s a pretty good start for a kid many expect to win the league’s rookie of the year award this season. He was 6-12 from the field overall, and 5-8 inside the arc.

Success inside the arc is what will most likely define his first year as a professional and so far, so good.
