The Cincinnati Reds drafted NC State relief pitcher Andrew Shaffner in the 15th round of the 2025 MLB Draft today, with the 444th overall pick.
Shaffner was NC State’s most consistent reliever this year, posting a 3.13 ERA with a 4-1 record, 7 saves, and a 1.07 WHIP. He struck out 39 batters in 37.1 innings.
2025 was a bounce-back year for Shaffner after struggling in 2024 with a 5.56 ERA in 7 appearances.
As a freshman, he had a 3.86 ERA in 15 appearances, striking out 23 batters in 21 innings.
With one year of collegiate eligibility remaining, we will have to see which route Shaffner chooses.
