Kings grab defensive center Phillip Danault to six-year deal; add Alex Edler to one-year deal

The Los Angeles Kings have signed free agent center and former first-round pick Phillip Danault to a six-year, $33 million contract.

Danault, 28, is fresh off leading the Montreal Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Final. He led all forwards in shorthanded time on ice and faceoff wins during the playoffs. He finished sixth in Selke Trophy voting this past season.

Former Vancouver blueliner Alexander Edler also joined the Kings, agreeing to a one-year, $3.5 million deal, ESPN reported.

Danault tallied 24 points (five goals, 19 assists) in 53 games for the Habs this past season, his sixth in Montreal.
