Although his mask may not have stayed on throughout the duration of the play, Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward has to be thankful he wore such a protective piece of headwear during Tuesday night's game against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins.

In the first period, Penguins right wing Phil Kessel put a shot on net that hit Ward square in the mask when the goalie couldn't get his glove up in time.
