Capitals deal Lars Eller to Avs, extend Nick Jensen

The Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Lars Eller from the Washington Capitals on Wednesday in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

The Capitals will retain 31 percent of Eller’s salary as part of the trade.

“Solid, big, strong third-line center,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Wednesday. “That’s what he is. Penalty-killer, good on draws, lots of experience. I’d say this is good pickup.

Eller, 33, collected 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 60 games this season with Washington.

He has 364 points (160 goals, 204 assists) in 930 games over 14 seasons with the St.
