Krueger replaces former Buffalo Sabres defenseman and head coach, Phil Housley. Housley coached the Sabres for two seasons (2017-2019). Unfortunately, Housley failed to get to the Sabres into the playoffs during his short tenure in Buffalo. Instead of hoping for success and leaving Housley in for one more season, the Sabres front office pulled the plug. The Sabres hope that Krueger can be the most successful coach in Upstate New York since Lindy Ruff and help the team get back to the playoffs.
