Super Bowl 2022 Preview: Can The Bengals Upset The Rams?

The 2022 Super Bowl goes down on February 13 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. This year, the Rams and the Bengals will battle it out for the ultimate accolade in football, but which team will come out on top? Based on recent form and the fact the Rams have home advantage, they’re the betting favorites for Super Bowl LVI. However, as is often the case in football, anything could happen. The Bengals could easily cause an upset and win their first ever Super Bowl.

Getting into the details, there are ways that both teams can win. The current Super Bowl winner odds have the LA Rams at an average price of -185 with exchange backers. The Cincinnati Bengals are currently being backed at an average price of +182. Tipping the odds in the Rams’ favor is Matthew Stafford and a fearsome defensive line. The standout quarterback has found his form in the recent run of postseason games. Naturally, this has made Stafford the focus of NFL betting tips articles over the last two weeks.

Stafford and Kupp are a Dynamic Duo
Stafford has significantly reduced the number of mistakes he makes and completed 72 out of 100 attempts in the postseason to notch up 905 yards. Add to this six touchdowns and just one intercepted throw, and it’s easy to see why Stafford’s current rating is 115.6. We also know he’s scored five touchdowns in the last three games he’s played against the Bengals. However, he’s not the Rams' only talisman.

Stafford’s favored target will be wide receiver Cooper Kupp. The 28-year-old Washington native was an All-American and has been playing for the Rams since being drafted in 2017. Kupp knows the playbook well and that shows, but he is also adept at eking out yards after the catch through whatever means necessary. A strong connection with Stafford has allowed Kupp to make 25 receptions and 386 yards in three playoff games. Add four touchdowns to his list of stats, and he’ll be a nightmare for the Bengals’ secondary at Super Bowl 56.

The Bengals Have Some Bite
However, we can’t assume it will be one-way traffic. Cincinnati will also have a star quarterback on the field. Joe Burrow hit his stride during the playoffs. He scored two touchdowns and completed 23 passes (from 38) during the Bengals’ AFC Championship win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Super Bowl 2022 could also give rookie wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase his breakout performance. He caught 20 passes, gained 279 yards, and scored a touchdown in three playoff games.

His performances belie his age as he has stepped up in key moments, which is even more impressive considering he's a 21-year-old rookie. Chase certainly has a bright future in the game and it will be exciting to see how much of an impact he will have in the Super Bowl.

The Rams will be tough to beat, and the money is flowing in their direction ahead of the kick-off. Home advantage will help, and the team’s form has been superior heading into the final game of the season. So, while the Bengals could upset the odds, the current consensus is that the LA Rams will win Super Bowl LVI.
