WATCH: Al Michaels gives moving tribute to Frank Gifford

The football world is in mourning Sunday over the passing of legendary player and broadcaster Frank Gifford. The former New York Giants star, Hall of Famer and member of the Monday Night Football team for over a quarter century died Sunday at the age of 84.

For 13 seasons, Gifford worked with Al Michaels in some form on those MNF telecasts. Michaels, who now does the play-by-play work for NBC’s Sunday Night Football games, got a chance to remember his friend and co-worker during that network’s broadcast of the Hall of Fame Game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings:

You could tell at points that Michaels was getting emotional when talking about his friend in the past tense and you can’t blame him for that at all.
