Washington gets first-rounder Brandon Scherff under contract

AP

Add Washington to the list of teams with all their draft picks under contract.

The team announced they had signed first-rounder Brandon Scherff and finalized their deal with sixth-rounder Tevin Mitchel, after signing their other eight picks yesterday.

Scherff was a bit of a surprise pick in the fifth overall spot, but Washington was willing to bypass defensive tackle Leonard Williams for a few reasons.

Primarily, they had a bigger need on the offensive line, after spending free agent money to upgrade their defensive line.

Scherff won last year’s Outland Trophy, as the nation’s top interior linemen, and Washington opes he can provide some stability up front for quarterback Robert Griffith III.
