'Thursday Night Football' has long been a drag for the players, who are unable to heal on a short week in time to turn around and play with three less days to recover and prepare. Subsequently, the product is almost universally considered inferior to Sundays and Mondays, which is a drag for the viewers and, in turn, a problem for the NFL.
According to Pro Football Talk, the league is considering decreasing or eliminating altogether 'TNF.' The current TV deal with CBS and NFL Network expires at the end of the 2017 season, when the league could make changes, save for the unlikely scenario in which a renegotiation occurs sooner.
