Sports Briefing | Pro Football: Roger Goodell Says Changes to His Role May Be Coming

After a series of stinging legal defeats, N.F.L. Commissioner Roger Goodell said he would consider changing his role in governing the league’s personal conduct policy. Goodell said Tuesday on the ESPN Radio program “Mike & Mike” that a discipline officer or a panel making the initial decision on whether to suspend a player “would make for a better system.” But he said the league was against having a third-party arbitrator — something other leagues use — because “the standards of the N.F.L. are important to uphold and we don’t want to delegate that responsibility or standard.
