Pontiac Silverdome to be destroyed

After failing to find new owners for the property, The Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit, Michigan, is set to be torn sometime next year.

The Silverdome, which was home to the Detroit Lions from 1975 to 2001, has deteriorated greatly since a winter storm caused major damage to the stadium in 2013. Now, weeds grow on the same ground where Barry Sanders once dominated the NFL.

"It is going to come down," said Kristie King, a Southfield-based broker with CBRE, which is marketing the Silverdome property for its private owner, the Triple Investment Group. "We will probably start the demolition process in the spring.
