Patriots Rumors: Mayo 'Expected to Have a Significantly Larger Staff' Than Belichick

It's a new era for the New England Patriots and first-year head coach Jerod Mayo is expected to fill as many coaching roles as possible.

Mike Reiss of ESPN reported that the team is expected to finalize its coaching staff this week and that "one of the headline themes is expected to be volume." This contrasts from how the team was run under former head coach Bill Belichick, as the Patriots "traditionally had one of the NFL's smaller staffs.

"Mayo is expected to have a significantly larger staff, which is somewhat tied to the desire to integrate ideas and perspectives from those who have coached elsewhere -- and is also perhaps a nod to how rare Belichick was in terms of having the knack to handle so many responsibilities himself," Reiss wrote.
