N.F.L. Roundup: Browns Halt Their Streak of Futility by Outlasting the Chargers

On the verge of infamy and embarrassment, the Cleveland Browns triumphed.

Two losses from a winless season, the host Browns survived a last-second field-goal attempt on Saturday and earned their first victory of the season in their 15th game, beating the San Diego Chargers, 20-17.

San Diego’s Josh Lambo missed a 45-yarder as time expired, and the Browns had their first win in more than a year.

When the kick sailed right, Cleveland’s small crowd erupted, and Browns players poured from the sideline.

The Browns avoided becoming the second team to go 0-15, and they no longer have to worry about joining the 2008 Detroit Lions as the only teams to lose 16 games.
