It wasn’t long after word of quarterback Russell Wilson’s new deal with the Seahawks went public that linebacker Bobby Wagner sent out a tweet saying that the team “can’t keep everyone.”
They wound up holding onto Wagner with an extension, but the linebacker isn’t wrong about the realities of holding a team together under a salary cap that only allows for so many top of the market contracts. Defensive end Michael Bennett and safety Kam Chancellor are two Seahawks looking for more with Chancellor holding out of training camp. Bennett’s there and agreed that you can’t pay everybody, but that some of the guys who don’t get new deals “feel like they should be paid just as much as those guys because everybody contributes to the Super Bowls and the championships.
