Kyle Shanahan Felt 49ers' Interest in Tom Brady Was Biggest Compliment to Brock Purdy

As San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy prepares to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Purdy could have been replaced last offseason.

Shanahan told Peter King of NBC Sports that while Purdy recovered from elbow surgery last year, the team had discussions about pursuing legendary quarterback Tom Brady. However, he was upfront with Purdy about San Francisco's pursuit of Brady, and he believes the move would have benefitted Purdy's development.

"I actually thought it was giving Brock the biggest compliment," Shanahan said. "I let him know he's our guy long-term.
