Jets Fire General Manager Mike Maccagnan

The Jets fired their general manager, Mike Maccagnan, on Wednesday. It was a curiously timed move, coming just after the N.F.L. draft and free-agency period, during which Maccagnan was a key player.

Coach Adam Gase will serve as interim general manager until the team finds a person for the job full time.

The Jets’ chief executive, Christopher Johnson, said in a brief statement: “Mike helped to execute the strategic vision of the organization during the last four seasons and especially the last four months. However I came to the decision to make a change after much thought and a careful assessment of what would be in the best long-term interests of the New York Jets.
