Dolphins Make Howard NFL's Highest-Paid CB

The Miami Dolphins and Xavien Howard have agreed to a contract extension that will make the cornerback the NFL's highest-paid player at his position.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Howard's new deal is for five years and $76.5 million, with $46 million guaranteed.

Howard, who turns 26 this summer, tied for the lead league with seven interceptions last year despite missing four games with a torn meniscus. Per Sports Info Solutions, he ranked eighth among qualifying cornerbacks in success rate last season, and 30th in yards allowed per pass (subscription required). He was 16th and fourth in those same categories in 2017; he did not qualify in his rookie season in 2016.
