Designated to return off injured reserve, Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III practices for first time

For the first time since suffering a broken bone in his non-throwing shoulder, Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III returned to practice and was designated to return off injured reserve, the team announced on Wednesday.

Griffin, 26, must still be cleared for full contact, but it's possible he could return following the Browns' bye. Josh McCown already will start versus the Giants on Sunday while Cody Kessler remains in the concussion protocol, then comes the bye.

With Griffin activated off IR, he'll serve as the team's one allowed designation to return for the season.

Griffin suffered the injury during his first regular season game as a Brown Week One, and was placed on IR shortly after.
