Cleveland Browns officially sign QB Charlie Whitehurst, waive seventh-round LB Scooby Wright

The Browns have waived seventh-round linebacker Scooby Wright, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Wright, the former Arizona standout, was inactive for the club's first two regular- season games. The 22-year-old is expected to be signed to the practice squad, assuming he clears waivers.

Wright's release is to accommodate quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, who was signed by the team. Whitehurst, an 11-year veteran, will likely serve as backup to rookie Cody Kessler Sunday in Miami.

Kessler will start after Josh McCown suffered a shoulder injury that could sideline him for a few weeks.

In 24 career games, Whitehurst, 34, has 205 completions for 2,281 yards and 10 touchdowns to seven interceptions.
