Chiefs hopeful Dontari Poe can play in Week One

When it was revealed in late July that Chiefs defensive tackle Dontari Poe had back surgery, the team said that he was out indefinitely and couldn’t say whether his absence would extend into the regular season.

It’s been a bit more than a month since Poe’s microdiscectomy and the team still isn’t giving a definitive status for the season opener against the Texans, but coach Andy Reid said that Poe has progressed well and believes he’ll be able to play in Week One.

“He’s doing great,” Reid said, via ESPN.com. “He’s made big strides.
