Chargers activate TE Cleveland as Gates insurance

Antonio Gates' chances of playing on Sunday are getting slim.

The Chargers signed tight end Asante Cleveland from the practice squad as insurance for Gates, who is doubtful to play against the Colts with a hamstring injury.

To make room for Cleveland, the Chargers waived running back Andre Williams.

If Gates is out, Philip Rivers will be without four of his top offensive weapons from 2015 (Keenan Allen, Steve Johnson, Danny Woodhead). Rookie tight end Hunter Henry figures to get most of Gates' targets.
