Derek Anderson made the surprising start ahead of Cam Newton on Sunday Night Football against the Seahawks. The veteran quarterback threw an interception on his first throw of the game.
Newton -- last year's MVP -- replaced Anderson on the team's second series.

NBC's Michele Tafoya reported later that Rivera briefly benched Newton because of a "dress code violation.
