Belichick Avoids Direct Answers on Deflated Footballs

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Coach Bill Belichick is shedding little light in his first public remarks since the Wells report on the Patriots' use of underinflated footballs.

Belichick spoke for about five minutes Friday after New England's third day of organized team activities this week.

The report issued 23 days earlier led to Tom Brady's suspension for the first four games of the coming season. He is appealing it and did not speak to reporters after Friday's workout.

Belichick was asked if he's preparing to begin the season with backup Jimmy Garoppolo as the starting quarterback and said he's "just going day by day.
