The biggest NFL headline over the past week was Andrew Luck announcing his retirement with the Indianapolis Colts, catching the entire league off-guard. Luck is only 29 years old & was the reigning NFL comeback player of the year in 2018, but has battled injuries his entire career & was reportedly “mentally worn down & checking out.” In NFL rumors, could Luck end up returning to the football field to play in the XFL instead? Luck’s father is the XFL commissioner & there are a few reasons why it could make sense.
The big question now is how will the Colts replace Luck’s production? Will Jacoby Brissett be able to handle the workload? Could the Colts trade for Eli Manning? Manning is nearing the end of his career, but the Giants drafted Daniel Jones in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft & he has been impressive throughout the NFL preseason. IN THE VIDEO ABOVE, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly shopping a handful of their players, including Kenny Stills, Reshad Jones & Kiko Alonso. Kenny Stills was reportedly called out by head coach Brian Flores for not performing up to expectations during training camp. Kiko Alonso is being outperformed by a rookie LB & Reshad Jones is not expected to be an every down player despite landing a huge contract. Which of these players will be on new teams in 2019? Another trade rumor garnering attention is the Eagles trading Alshon Jeffrey, but there doesn’t seem to be much reality behind that one.
Finally, NFL Daily host Tom Downey discusses the possibility of Rob Gronkowski returning to the NFL. Former Patriots tight end Jermaine Wiggins says he is 97% sure that Gronk will return to the Pats in 2019. However, Gronk is set to hold a press conference Tuesday morning to unvei his future plans in which he wants to “tackle new opportunities.”
