Newcastle and Everton have agreed a £30m fee for midfielder Moussa Sissoko.
Personal terms have not been agreed and it is understood Tottenham might be a more preferable option for the 27-year-old, although the London club have not yet met Newcastle's asking price.
Spurs are thought to have bid about £25m for the France international.
Newcastle, relegated from the Premier League last season, do not want to sell the player who impressed in helping France to the Euro 2016 final.
Sissoko has stated his desire to leave St James' Park after the club dropped down to the Championship.
