Thiago Silva 'devastated' as Chelsea slump to 4-1 defeat to Newcastle and sends message of apology for his performance after being at fault for Magpies' third goal

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has apologised for his performance following the disappointing 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday.

The Magpies scored three second half goals without reply to send Mauricio Pochettino's side to a crushing defeat, with the Brazilian at fault for Joelinton's 61st-minute strike.

Silva's sloppy pass was cut off by his countryman and he made no mistake in putting the ball past Robert Sanchez to give the home side a 3-1 lead.

After the game, the 39-year-old took to social media to send an emotional message apologising for his and the team's display at St James' Park.
