Not since a 3-0 win over Wigan in December 2012 have the Magpies won such a fixture, and 10 subsequent defeats have been suffered with an aggregate score of 3-20. Indeed, they have not scored for five years.
Newcastle travel to Burnley on Monday evening - where they lost 1-0 on a Monday last season - and Benitez said: 'The records are there to be broken, so we have to change this, it's as simple as that.
