Premier League 'unlikely to prevent Newcastle takeover' despite Amnesty condemning Amanda Staveley's Saudi-backed consortium for attempting to use it as a 'PR tool' to improve image on human rights

The Premier League are reportedly unlikely to stand in the way of Newcastle's proposed takeover despite Amnesty saying Saudi Arabia will use it as a PR tool to improve its image on human rights.

Mike Ashley is close to sealing the £300million sale of the Premier League club to a consortium fronted by Amanda Staveley, which has been backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and its crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Sportsmail reported on Wednesday that the deal is now in the hands of the Premier League with Ashley 'closer than ever' to ending his 13-year reign as owner.
