Newcastle United are in consultation with counter-terrorism experts over the proposal to close roads around St James' Park amid fears of a terror attack involving vehicles.
At present, Strawberry Place - which runs behind the Gallowgate End - remains open on match days, including immediately after full-time when tens of thousands of supporters bring traffic to a standstill as they make their way across the road and into the city centre.
But the club's head of security has now met with members of Northumbria Police and Newcastle City Council to discuss concerns which have been heightened in light of recent terror attacks in which vehicles have been used to drive into crowds.
