Newcastle United have asked about taking Everton midfielder Tom Cleverley on loan.

Manager Rafa Benitez wants cover for Jonjo Shelvey who is suspended and has also asked about Chelsea's Ruben Loftus Cheek and Manchester City's Fabian Delph.

Cleverley has slipped down the pecking order at Everton with Ronald Koeman preferring to use Tom Davies off the bench against Hull City on Friday night.

West Bromwich Albion and other Premier League sides have enquired about Cleverley but the 27-year-old was intending to see out the season at Goodison.
