Newcastle United are back in the Premier League at the first attempt after securing promotion with victory over Preston on Monday night.

More than 50,000 fans were packed into St James' Park for the 4-1 victory over the Lillywhites, which was secured thanks to a brace from Ayoze Perez and goals from Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie.

There were joyous scenes at the final whistle, as the Magpies' one-year exile from the top flight was ended.
