Newcastle United have rejected a bid from Brighton & Hove Albion for striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The bid was worth around £8million, while Newcastle value the 23-year-old at £15m.
Newcastle are also said to be reluctant to sell to a direct rival.
Brighton and Newcastle both have 23 points from their first 24 Premier League matches, leaving them hovering dangerously above the relegation zone.
Both sides have struggled in attack this season. Only Swansea have netted fewer goals than Brighton, who have managed just 17, while Newcastle are the League's joint-15th lowest scorers on 22.
