Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley have moved closer to reaching a deal for the sale of Newcastle United.

Sportsmail can exclusively reveal that an agreement in the region of £300million could now be close.

We understand that Ashley would fund Rafa Benitez’s January transfer spending but would be reimbursed by Staveley and PCP Capital Partners - her Middle East investment fund - when the deal is completed, most likely around the end of January.
