Newcastle move to within touching distance of Premier League as Reading lose, while Sheffield Wednesday keep promotion prospects alive

Newcastle could reach the Premier League on Monday, as defeats for both Huddersfield and Reading left them on the brink of promotion.

Reading lost 3-2 to Nottingham Forest, meaning Newcastle will join Brighton in the top flight next season if they beat Preston on Monday.

Forest led 3-0 10 minutes after half-time through Britt Assombalonga's double and a Mustapha Carayol strike, and though Yann Kermorgant pulled two goals back Reading could not find an equaliser.
