Jonjo Shelvey has apologised to Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez and his team-mates for the 'moment of madness' which cost him his place in the team.
The 25-year-old midfielder was sent off for a stamp on Dele Alli during the 2-0 home defeat by Tottenham on the Magpies' return to the Premier League, and has paid the price since completing his ban.
He has been used only as a substitute in the club's last two games, and that is a situation he hopes will change when his former club Liverpool head for St James' Park on Sunday.
